About National Service Scheme (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunities to student youth of 11th and 12th classes at the +2 Board level, as well as students of technical institutions, and those pursuing graduate and postgraduate studies at colleges and universities across India, to participate in various government-led community service activities and programmes. The primary objective of NSS is to develop the personality and character of student youth through voluntary community service. The philosophy of NSS is ‘Education through Service.’

The motto of the National Service Scheme is ‘Not Me, But You.’
Aims and Objectives
Aim and Objective :
The primary aim of the National Service Scheme (NSS) is to develop the personality and character of student youth through voluntary community service, with the motto “Not Me, But You”. NSS aims to bridge the gap between the campus and the community, fostering a sense of social and civic responsibility among students and encouraging them to participate in nation-building activities.
Aims:
- Personality Development: To help students understand themselves in relation to their community and develop their personality through community service.
- Community Engagement: To encourage students to work with communities, understand their needs and problems, and participate in finding solutions.
- National Integration: To promote national unity and social harmony among diverse communities.
Objectives:
- Understanding the Community: To understand the community in which they work and their role within it.
- Identifying Community Problems: To identify the needs and problems of the community and involve themselves in problem-solving exercises.
- Developing Social Responsibility: To develop a sense of social and civic responsibility among students.
- Utilizing Knowledge: To apply their knowledge and skills to find practical solutions to community problems.
- Mobilizing Community Participation: To gain skills in mobilizing community participation and promoting collective action.
- Developing Leadership Qualities: To acquire leadership qualities and democratic values through group work and community service.
- Building Resilience: To develop the capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.
- Promoting National Integration: To foster national integration and social harmony.
